Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Mobilises 8,000 Graduates for NYSC in One Year

Professor Isaac Itodo, Vice Chancellor of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, announced that the institution has mobilised approximately 8,000 graduates for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the past year. This marks a significant improvement following years of stagnation under previous administrations.
Prof. Itodo shared this update during an interaction with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). He highlighted that under his leadership, the university expanded from three non-academic directorates, promoting officers based on merit to boost productivity.

To enhance administrative efficiency, Prof. Itodo noted that the delay in transcript processing has been resolved with the implementation of new measures. The university also restructured its engineering department to increase student intake and create job opportunities for the local community and engineering professionals.
Additionally, the university is developing an International Conference Center equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to boost its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).Regarding campus security, Prof. Itodo acknowledged recent incidents, including a robbery at a female hostel and the kidnapping of four students, one of whom was released. The university has responded by purchasing patrol vehicles and motorcycles, and partnering with the Department of State Services (DSS) to train 400 security staff.
The Vice Chancellor expressed optimism that the Benue State Government will soon rehabilitate the SRS junction - J.S. Tarka University road, which is currently in poor condition due to the rainy season.
Prof. Itodo also commended TETFUND and several government officials, including Senator George Akume and Prof. Joseph Alakari, for their support in advancing the university's growth.
