The University of Port Harcourt has issued a directive prohibiting students from using the university’s basketball court and its surrounding areas with immediate effect.
According to an official memorandum dated March 29, 2026, and signed by the Dean of Student Affairs, Wokocha Chima Chibuike, the basketball court and adjoining spaces have been declared out of bounds for any form of activity.
The memo stated that any individual or group found engaging in activities within the restricted area would be apprehended and handed over to relevant security agencies.
It further warned students to strictly comply with the directive in order to avoid disciplinary action, although no reason was provided for the sudden restriction.

The notice was circulated to key university officials, including the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellors (Administration, Academic, and Research & Development), the Director of the Sports Institute, the Registrar, Chief Security Officer, and the Students’ Union Government.
University authorities emphasized that enforcement of the directive would be strict, with violators facing immediate arrest and possible legal action through security agencies.
