The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has officially prohibited the traditional “sign-out” celebrations by final-year students, declaring the practice banned with immediate effect from Thursday, October 2, 2025.

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has officially prohibited the traditional “sign-out” celebrations by final-year students, declaring the practice banned with immediate effect from Thursday, October 2, 2025.

In a circular signed by the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. C. C. Wokocha, the institution outlined strict measures to enforce the ban. The directive prohibits the signing of T-shirts during final-year examinations or within the premises of examination venues.

The university further stated that any student arriving for examinations accompanied by security personnel will have their vehicle impounded, while security agents caught escorting students into exam halls will be handed over to the Rivers State Commissioner of Police.

Additionally, UNIPORT has outlawed gatherings of final-year students after their examinations, warning parents and guardians to stay away from exam venues. Photographers who set up platforms at such venues risk arrest.

“Any student or group of students found violating this order will face the Students Disciplinary Committee,” the circular emphasized.

The ban, which took immediate effect, has been communicated to the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellors, Registrar, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, and the Inspector General of Police for enforcement.
