University of Abuja Gets New Acting Vice-Chancellor

Professor Mathew Adamu has been appointed as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, succeeding Professor Patricia Manko Lar, who completed her six-month tenure.

The handover ceremony marked a significant transition, with Professor Adamu soliciting the support of the university community to realize his vision for the institution.

Professor Adamu is a renowned veterinary scholar with over 27 years of experience as a registered veterinarian. He holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (1998) and a Master of Science (2006) from the University of Maiduguri, as well as a PhD in Veterinary Surgery from the University of Pretoria, South Africa (2012). He became a Fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeons of Nigeria and was promoted to full Professor in 2019, specializing in Veterinary Parasitology and Entomology.

As Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adamu will work closely with the Governing Council, led by Senator Olanrewaju Tejuoso, to conclude the ongoing process for appointing a substantive Vice-Chancellor in line with statutory provisions and guidelines. He will steer the university forward during this transition period, focusing on academic and administrative stability.

Professor Lar provided purposeful leadership during her tenure, fostering academic and administrative stability and initiating the selection process for a substantive Vice-Chancellor. The university community expressed sincere gratitude to her for her dedicated service, visionary leadership, and commitment to excellence.
