University of Delta Theatre Arts Department Inducts 107 Students in "Arts Reborn" Ceremony

One hundred and seven students were on Friday, 28th November, 2025 formally inducted into the Department of Theatre Arts, University of Delta, Agbor, in a memorable ceremony that showcased their talents.

The event which was held at the Arts Theatre , Main Campus, attracted staff and students, including the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Patricia Mbah, the Librarian Dr. Vera Okonoko and the Dean of Postgraduate School, Prof. Regina Arisi.

Dr. Chijioke Iyama, the Head of Theatre Arts Department, expressed excitement in welcoming the new inductees to the vibrant community of artists. He stated that the Department was a united one, bounded in love, vision and excellence geared towards building potential skilled actors, entertainers and ambassadors with morals to contribute positively to nation building.

He stated that the induction ceremony was a theatrical rite that was carried out by the Department to absorb fresh students into a world of performance in a bid to enhance and instill in them the essence of culture, creativity and discipline in the arts profession.

Speaking on the theme of the induction, "Arts Reborn: Awaking the Beacon of Culture and Creativity", Dr. Iyama encouraged the students to use their passion, ideas and purpose to create meaningful things, and pursue excellence in their academic journey.

In her address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke said she was always honoured and overwhelmed to witness the induction ceremony. She congratulated the students on their successful admission and reminded them that theatre arts was a vital part of culture and society that offered a platform for creative expression, story telling and social commentary.

She informed the inductees that they would learn from a crop of competent lecturers who have made significant contributions to the Nigerian theatre scene. 

She added that they would also have access to state-of-the-art facilities and resource which would enable them to hone their craft and showcase their talents.

Prof. Chiemeke charged the inductees to use their skills to promote cultural understanding, challenge social norms and inspire positive change.

The students in their beautiful costumes, filled with joy, entertained the audience with energetic and captivating acts, earning kudos and commendations from invited guests including Dr. Oghenemudiaga Praise Akpughe from the University of Benin.

The event also featured stand-up comedy, music, poetry, dance and solo performance.
