University of Ibadan Honours Researchers as TETFund Releases Grants for 46 Projects

The commendation was delivered during an award presentation ceremony organised to recognise the researchers whose proposals secured funding under the intervention programme. Professor Adebowale praised the beneficiaries for sustaining the university’s long-standing tradition of academic excellence and reaffirmed the management’s commitment to encouraging research activities that strengthen the institution’s reputation as a research-driven university.
He noted that the true strength of a university lies not in physical infrastructure but in impactful research output, stressing the need for academic staff to remain actively engaged in research capable of addressing societal challenges and advancing knowledge.
The Vice-Chancellor also commended the Chairman of the Research Grants Scientific Committee (RGSC), Professor Akinyinka Omigbodun, for the rigorous evaluation process undertaken by the committee before the proposals were forwarded for consideration.

Professor Omigbodun explained that the committee reviewed submissions in line with its terms of reference, providing constructive feedback and technical support to researchers to improve the quality of their proposals. He added that applications were assessed strictly on merit, with emphasis placed on relevance, quality and potential impact.
He further acknowledged the contributions of the Academic Planning Unit and the Research Management Office for their roles in ensuring a comprehensive review process, expressing confidence that the funded projects would contribute meaningfully to society while enhancing the university’s research profile.
The TETFund Board of Trustees approved the release of ₦80,859,000, representing 60 per cent of the total approved sum of ₦134,765,000 for 46 research projects submitted by the University of Ibadan, with beneficiaries drawn from multiple faculties across the institution.
