The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic of the University of Ibadan, Professor Juwon T. Arotiba, FICD, FWACS has said that the University of Ibadan values impactful collaborative research ventures.
He made this statement on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, while receiving Dr. Ayodele Periola, a research scientist from Cape Peninsula University of Technology, South Africa on a courtesy visit to the office of the Vice-Chancellor.
Professor Arotiba reiterated that the university has consistently demonstrated its commitment to excellence in teaching, research and innovation to position itself as a leading educational institution in Nigeria, with a vision to translate research into useful products and services.
He affirmed that the University of Ibadan is always ready to embrace town-gown collaborations through linkages, strategic partnerships, and cooperation with institutions and industries to contribute to national development.
Given the university’s antecedents, the DVC reassured Dr. Ayodele Periola that he has made a right choice to collaborate with UI in a timely initiative to advance academic research and innovation in Nigeria.
Dr. Ayodele Periola had earlier said the purpose of his visit was to collaborate with the Department of Forest Production and Products in the area of research where woods are used for technology.
According to him, his research is focused on using woods to design satellite frames which can survive high radiation environment, disclosing that this has been receiving global attention, but was yet to be adopted in Africa.
The Research Scientist disclosed that he chose the University of Ibadan because it has a large Department of Forest Production and Products that could accommodate the dynamics of the research work, adding that this will avail him the opportunity to look at wood species, strength and wood properties.
Dr. Periola was led on the visit by the Dean, Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources, Professor Adejoke Akinyele who was accompanied by the Head, Department of Forest Products and Production, Prof. S. O. Olajuyigbe, Former Heads of the Department; Prof. O. Y. Ogunsanwo, Professor A. O. Omole and other academic staff of the Department.
