University of Maiduguri Admission Office Highlights Key Requirements and Challenges

The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has provided essential guidance for prospective students seeking admission, outlining requirements, cut-off marks, and potential challenges in the application process.

Speaking in an interview with Unimaid Bulletin, Deputy Registrar (Admissions), Dr. Ebenezer A. Felix, emphasized that candidates must have a minimum of five credits in relevant subjects and a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) score of at least 150. Highly competitive programmes, particularly in the College of Medical Sciences and Law, require scores of 200 and above.

Dr. Felix explained that UNIMAID employs a quota system to ensure fairness, giving consideration to candidates based on merit, catchment area, and educationally less-developed states (ELDS). He highlighted that the university’s admission process is now fully digitalized, streamlining registration, fee payment, and other administrative procedures while reducing opportunities for malpractice.

However, the Deputy Registrar identified poor compliance by candidates as a major challenge. Many applicants fail to upload O-Level results or apply for courses that do not match their qualifications, resulting in the loss of admission slots.

Dr. Felix advised prospective students to:

• Ensure all required documents and information are correctly uploaded.
• Verify that their UTME scores and subject combinations match their chosen courses.
• Regularly check the university website and admissions portal to stay updated on deadlines and notifications.

The admissions office urges all candidates to strictly adhere to guidelines to maximize their chances of securing a place at UNIMAID.
