The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has called for greater investment from the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project to sustain and expand the gains achieved through its agricultural partnership with the University.

Speaking during the second harvest cycle of the University’s screen house cucumber farm, Vice-Chancellor Professor Olayemi Akinwumi commended ACReSAL for its commitment to practical agricultural development. The initiative has provided staff, students, and cooperative members with hands-on experience that complements classroom learning. The harvest visit also showcased flowering pepper and other crops approaching maturity.

Represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Salihu Danlami Musa, the Vice-Chancellor noted that FUL is mobilizing both human and material resources to ensure sustained agricultural practices aimed at producing graduates capable of contributing to national food security.

Acting Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Professor Olufegba S. Olabode, announced plans to allocate additional land for ACReSAL to establish more screen houses, ensuring uninterrupted harvest cycles and year-round engagement for participating farmers.

Cooperative representatives, Mr. Idris Usman and Mrs. Joy Jeremiah, emphasized the need for increased investment and logistical support to encourage hardworking but economically challenged members.

Students also voiced their appreciation. Israel Williams, an Agricultural Extension student, noted that the partnership has greatly enhanced practical learning, equipping students with the skills and experience necessary to succeed in modern agriculture.
