Yobe State University Tightens Residency Rules; Ends Extensions for 'Spill Over' Students

In a strategic move to uphold global academic standards, the Management of Yobe State University (YSU) has announced a significant policy shift regarding the extension of residency for its students.

The decision was formalized in an internal memorandum dated March 6, 2026, following a Special Management Meeting held on Tuesday, February 24, 2024.

New Residency Limits

The University Registrar, Isa Audu Dallari, clarified that any approved extension of residency will now be valid only for the upcoming 2026/2027 academic session.

Crucially, the new directive states that students who have already exhausted their Spill Over I & II periods will no longer be eligible for further residency extensions starting from the said session. This means students in this category will have no further opportunity to remain in the institution to complete their programmes.

Aligning with National Standards

The management emphasized that this enforcement is essential to maintain the academic integrity of the institution. According to the memo, the policy is designed to bring Yobe State University in line with best practices observed across Nigerian universities nationwide.

This policy update serves as a final notice to affected students to conclude their academic requirements within the stipulated timeframe.
