No fewer than 771 students from various departments of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, will receive degrees at the institution’s 7th convocation ceremony on Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference to herald the event, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe revealed that 598 of the graduates are undergraduates, while 173 are postgraduate students. She provided a detailed breakdown of the postgraduate awards, noting that the university produced 76 Master’s degree holders, 32 MPH graduates, 52 Postgraduate Diploma recipients, and 13 Ph.D. graduates.

Prof. Adejuyigbe highlighted the university’s growth, particularly in research, and emphasized that its postgraduate programmes have been strengthened. She also affirmed that all academic programmes at UNIMED are fully accredited by relevant authorities.

The Vice-Chancellor further disclosed that six academic staff recently secured National Research Fund approval. Additionally, she celebrated the achievement of Dr Peter Olumuyiwa, an academic staff member who was ranked among the top two percent of scientists globally in 2024 and 2025.

Commenting on the ongoing “Japa syndrome”, Prof. Adejuyigbe stressed the need for universities to produce more medical professionals to address the shortage of personnel caused by the relocation of many healthcare workers abroad.
