The University on the Niger, a new faith-based institution in Onitsha, Anambra State, has matriculated its first batch of students. The university, owned by the Diocese on the Niger, Anglican Communion, aims to provide sound moral, entrepreneurial, and academic education.

The maiden matriculation ceremony which held on 15th June, 2024 at Archbishop C.J Patterson International Complex, the university's auditorium, saw 300 students take the oath of membership, marking a huge step for the institution.

The Vice Chancellor, Very Rev. Prof. Chinedu Nebo, reiterated the university's commitment to providing sound moral, entrepreneurial, and academic education. He expressed gratitude to God for the university's progress and prayed for continued guidance and prosperity.

The Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Nwokolo, emphasized the institution's goal to surpass the achievements of early missionaries in education and morality. He encouraged the matriculants to embrace this unique opportunity for academic excellence and impactful life.

The Keynote speaker, Chief Osita Chidoka, urged students to embrace learning with dedication, passion, and resilience, and to cherish the university as a revered citadel of learning.

University on the Niger, is the first in Nigeria to offer Artificial Intelligence (A.I) education with critical thinking, French, and Igbo languages as compulsory backups, while aiming to produce well-rounded graduates.

The Obi of Onitsha, HRM Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe (Agbogidi), who served as Royal Father of the day, also graced the occasion. He congratulated the students and commended the Chancellor's visionary leadership.
