UNIZIK Alumnus Receives Presidential Award as Overall Best Corps Member
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, has received Mr. Okpogba Alvin Chinedu, an alumnus of the university, following his recognition as the Overall Best Corps Member in the Presidential NYSC Honours Award for the 2021 service year.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, has received Mr. Okpogba Alvin Chinedu, an alumnus of the university, following his recognition as the Overall Best Corps Member in the Presidential NYSC Honours Award for the 2021 service year.

The reception took place on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Vice-Chancellor’s office. Professor Arinze-Umobi congratulated Mr. Chinedu for his achievements and described his service year as commendable. She thanked him for representing the university positively and emphasized the role of corps members in national development.

Mr. Chinedu, a graduate of Music from the Faculty of Arts, also received recognition as the 2nd Overall Best Corps Member for the 2020–2023 service year, and Best Corps Member, Batch A Stream 1, Cross River State (2021). He served at the 13 Brigade Headquarters, Nigerian Army Barracks, Calabar.

During his service year, he carried out several community development projects, including:

- Composing the National Music Album Project titled "I SERVED"
- Composing the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Theme Song
- Composing the NAOWA School Anthem
- Constructing the Command Primary School signboard
- Providing waste disposal bins and receptacles at 13 locations within the barracks
- Volunteering as a music teacher at Command and NAOWA Primary Schools
- Donating 30 NYSC-branded hymn boxes and a secure storage box to Christ the King Chaplaincy, Akin Barracks
- Donating a Bluetooth rechargeable public address system to the NYSC office in Calabar
- Producing band sashes for the NYSC Band CDS group
- Volunteering as choir master and band musicologist for the Brigade Band and Air Force Catholic Chaplaincy

The event was attended by university officials, including Mr. Victor Modebelu (Acting Registrar), Mr. Gozie Egwuatu (University Bursar), Professor George Onwudiwe (Dean, Faculty of Arts), Dr. Ikedimma Okeke (HOD, Music), and Professor Alvan Ikoku Nwamara.
