In response to concerns raised by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) regarding the clash of dates between its planned Biafra Day activities and the scheduled convocation ceremony, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has made a strategic decision to readjust its convocation date. This move aims to ensure the safety and smooth proceedings of the event amidst heightened tensions.

The initial convocation ceremony, slated for May 30 and 31, faced uncertainty as IPOB announced May 30 as a day of remembrance, urging a sit-at-home protest to honor those who lost their lives during the Biafra war. The group warned of potential risks for attendees of the convocation ceremony on the same day.
