The competition, which spanned two days and featured 25 secondary schools, took place at the CBN Centre of Excellence for Economics and Finance, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.

UNN Secondary School Wins Chevening Science Competition

In a recent competition held in Enugu, the University of Nigeria Secondary School emerged as the winner of the Chevening Science Competition. Holy Rosary College Enugu and Command Day Secondary School secured the first and second runner-up positions, respectively.

The competition, which spanned two days and featured 25 secondary schools, took place at the CBN Centre of Excellence for Economics and Finance, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus. Seven schools made it to the grand finale, including Spring of Life Secondary School, Federal Government College, Holy Rosary College, New Haven Secondary School, University of Nigeria Secondary School, Command Day Secondary School, and Day Secondary School, Independence Layout.

The Project Director of Chevening Alumni, Mr. Lucky Nonyelum, explained that this competition's goal is to empower students by equipping them with the ability to use science to explore opportunities, predict outcomes, interpret results, and contribute to technological development in Nigeria. This initiative was sponsored by the Chevening Alumni Association of Nigeria in partnership with the British High Commissioner, Inspire Initiatives for Inclusive STEM Education, and supported by the Ministry of Education, Enugu State.

Chevening is a United Kingdom-sponsored post-graduate scholarship program, and this science competition is part of their efforts to promote Chevening within Nigeria. Mr. Nonyelum emphasized the importance of giving back to Nigeria after pursuing education in the UK.

The winning school received a cash prize of N200,000 along with books and school bags. The first runner-up was awarded N100,000 in cash, books, and school bags, while the second runner-up received bags and books.

The students representing the University of Nigeria Secondary School expressed their gratitude to the organizers for the opportunity to showcase their talents. They also acknowledged their teachers' support and vowed to continue working hard to improve their knowledge.
