Akanbi Akeem Olamilekan, a first-class graduate from the Department of Statistics at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), has shared the story of his remarkable academic journey. Through discipline, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication, Akeem defied the odds to emerge as one of the best students in his department.

Hailing from Ilorin, Kwara State, Akeem had always envisioned studying at UDUS. He described his admission into the institution as a "dream come true" and remained focused on his goal of academic excellence from his first year.

His determination was nurtured by a strong support system, including his parents, Alhaji Akanbi Ibrahim Isemi and Akanbi Nimat Isemi, alongside his elder sisters. He also credited his friend, Abdulrauf Ahmad Alafara, for inspiring and motivating him throughout his academic pursuit.

Unlike many students who balance social activities with studies, Akeem followed a strict academic schedule. "I read from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM daily. My program was 9 to 9," he revealed. His ability to sustain this intense study routine was a major factor in his outstanding performance.

UDUS is renowned for its high academic standards, with some lecturers maintaining strict grading systems. Despite these challenges, Akeem remained focused. "To be honest, it is Allah’s work. It is not my power," he humbly stated, attributing his success to a combination of divine favor and hard work.

His consistency was reflected in his cumulative grade point average (CGPA) progression:

This unwavering performance ensured he remained in the first-class category throughout his academic journey.

While many students encounter academic setbacks, Akeem maintained a spotless record. "No, I have never failed before," he confidently stated, emphasizing his commitment to excellence.

Akeem advised students to remain dedicated to their studies and avoid distractions. "Some students have the brain, but they are good at copying bad gangs. Study yourself and know the type of family you come from," he emphasized, urging students to make wise choices regarding their academic and social lives.

Beyond his personal success, Akeem was actively involved in tutoring his peers. "I do tutorials on campus based on my course," he shared, highlighting his passion for mentorship and knowledge-sharing.

As he embarks on the next phase of his journey, Akeem is determined to use his education for societal good. "Whether through research, teaching, or other professional engagements, I am determined to make a meaningful contribution because my journey at UDUS has not only shaped my academic prowess but has also prepared me for the challenges ahead," he concluded.
