The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Africa Toru-orua Professor Barclays Ayakoroma, admonished members of the University Student Union Government (SUG) to work closely with the University Management to ensure that things go on well as expected within the University.

The Vice–Chancellor gave this charge yesterday during the official inauguration and presentation of the just elected SUG Executives who took over from the Comrade Edih Kelly led Executives of the UAT Student Union Government.

The AVC who was in company of the University Registrar, Dr. Akpoebi Adesi; The Acting Bursar, Dr. Umbe Ayekurobotaregha; The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Dunu Benson; and other Members of Staff acknowledged that student leadership is very demanding, and as such they must put in the work to ensure that their good grades are maintained, while also noting that as a young University, UAT is saddled with several challenges but in the midst of them all, the University has successfully graduated two sets of students and is about to graduate the third set by this month, while some have successfully completed the National Youth Corp Service programme. He further added that the New Executives should know that as ambassadors of the University, they must dress and speak well of the University always. He urged them to make best use of the opportunity they have received and ensure that they leave a lasting legacy and a positive testimonial behind.

The AVC further solicited for a cordial working relationship with the new Executives to ensure that the primary objective of the University; which is education is successfully achieved.

Lending a voice to support the AVC in admonishing the student Executives was the Acting Bursar, who encouragement the new SUG leadership to take accountability of the funds of the SUG as a priority. He said, while the University is playing its part to ensure the financial records of the SUG are kept strait, the SUG must play its part to ensure every penny is well spent and accounted for. 

The Dean of Student Affairs also urged the new leaders to collaborate with the Student Affairs Division to ensure that the issue of indecent dressing is tackled and brought to its' bearest minimum. He further reposed confidence in the Comrade Ebikela led Executives, adding that they would not disappoint the University Management.

Responding, the SUG President, Comrade Sanu Ebikela appreciated the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Barclays Ayakoroma for the fatherly role he played during the elections that led to his emergence as President, while further appreciating the students for the trust bestowed on him. He pledged to make student welfare a priority and promised not to disappoint the students during his time as president. He further pledged that the SUG Executives will work hand in hand with the Management to ensure that the needs of students are met at all times.

Also present at the event were past comrades of the UAT Students Union Government, Comrades from Joint Campus Committee (JCC) and the Secretary General of the National Association of Nigerian Student (NANS), Comrade kings Ayibapreye.

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of an Academic Achievement Award to the Acting Vice-Chancellor by the 2023 UAT SUG Executives.
