In a groundbreaking achievement, De’Shawn Washington, a fourth-grade teacher at Maria Hastings Elementary School in Lexington, Massachusetts, has been honored with the prestigious Teacher of the Year Award, setting a historic record as the first Black man to receive this accolade in the state.

Washington, an active member of the Lexington Education Association, demonstrated an exceptional commitment to education, earning him the Massachusetts Teacher of the Year title. His contributions were acknowledged for fostering inclusivity, advocacy, and growth in his students.

In another remarkable story, Adefemi Adeola Adedunke, a Nigerian teacher at Keke Senior High School, Agege, Lagos, secured 6.5 million naira and training in the United Kingdom after winning the 9th edition of the Maltina Teacher of the Year competition. Her outstanding achievement in teaching was rewarded with a cash prize and training opportunity.
