Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has initiated the disbursement of Small and Medium School Improvement Grants (SIGS) under the Adolescent Girls’ Initiatives for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project. The ceremony took place in Gusau on Wednesday, where the Governor distributed award letters to contractors selected as Technical Service Providers for school renovation and rehabilitation projects.

According to a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the project aims to enhance access, retention, and completion rates in schools across the state. This disbursement marks the first phase of the SIGS under the AGILE Project.

Governor Lawal announced that 322 schools were selected for the exercise, with a total cost of N11,736,000,000. He emphasized that this initiative is a significant milestone in fulfilling his campaign promises to revitalize the education sector in Zamfara State. The Governor reiterated the state’s commitment to renovating and rehabilitating school infrastructure, creating a safe and conducive learning environment for children.

Lawal urged the Technical Service Providers to adhere strictly to the School Improvement Plans (SIPs) and project implementation guidelines. He highlighted the importance of cost-effectiveness and value for money in all engagements related to the development. The Governor also called on the Project Monitoring team, School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs), and the general public to remain vigilant and fully engaged in the process, emphasizing that the initiative is an investment in the future of Zamfara State.
