13 UNIPORT Students Receive ASUU Scholarship Award

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) branch of the University of Port Harcourt on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 presented scholarships worth N1.500, 000 to thirteen exceptional students of the university.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) branch of the University of Port Harcourt on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 presented scholarships worth N1.500, 000 to thirteen exceptional students of the university, Myschoolnews gathered.

Two of the beneficiaries, Adindu Odinakachi David and Okoli Ebuka Miracle were awarded scholarships of N200,000 each.

Meanwhile, Onyenucheya Leonard Chikodinaka, Mba Ginika Victoria, Peter Barinaadaa Victoria, Esther Joy Orie, Athana-Sonny Shalom Wariku, Egeonu Anastasia Oluebube, Samuel Simeon Chinedu, Okpanma Promise, Osademe Tephillah Nwakaego,Ipigansi Humble Arugai and Chinonyerem Mercy Ifunanya got N100,000 each.

Speaking at the presentation of scholarships to the beneficiaries, the Institution Vice Chancellor, Prof Georgewill Owunari, commended the ASUU branch leadership for lifting the financial burden off parents of the beneficiaries of the scholarships scheme.

“I want to commend ASUU, especially this Executives, past and present. Yes, I commend you, because you have lifted the burden of families. ASUU has done so well by giving you a lease of life.” he said.

Charging the beneficiaries to utilize the opportunity of the scholarship to improve their academic pursuit, the VC added that the awardees must ensure they perform well in their studies.

“A lot of responsibility is also on you now. You cannot fail ASUU. You cannot get this money from them and you go and play and then you don't pass exams. That is you disappointing them.”

“Let me thank ASUU again, one more time. please, you have done something that is so significant, that is why I said, i must be here to witness the presentation of awards, because I know what school charges and payments means.” he added.

 

Dignitaries who attended the presentation of the scholarship awards included top executives of the Uniport ASUU branch, alongside Union members.
