35 Bag First Class as Dominion University Holds Second Convocation

Dominion University, Ibadan, is set to award first-class honours to 35 graduates during its second convocation ceremony scheduled for Saturday, October 19. The announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abel Olorunnisola, at a press briefing held on the university premises on Tuesday.

Professor Olorunnisola revealed that 18 of the first-class graduates, representing 51.4%, are from the Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences, while 17 graduates, accounting for 48.6%, are from the Faculty of Computing and Applied Sciences. Notably, 19 (54.3%) of the first-class honorees are female. The overall best graduating student, Favour Chizaram Anyinka, achieved a remarkable feat, graduating with a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0/5.0 in Biochemistry.

In addition to academic achievements, Professor Olorunnisola disclosed that the university awarded scholarships to 28 graduates, of whom 10 attained first-class honours while the remaining 18 achieved second-class upper division.

Recalling the institution's maiden convocation in 2023, which produced 96 graduates, the Vice-Chancellor stated that this year's ceremony will feature 148 graduates. Among them, six students completed their studies in April 2024, while the remaining 142 students finished their programs at the end of the academic session.

The distribution of graduates across faculties shows that 84 students are from the Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences, and 58 are from the Faculty of Computing and Applied Sciences. The graduating class comprises 66 males (44.6%) and 82 females (55.4%). Of the total graduates, 35 (23.6%) obtained first-class honours, 71 (48%) secured second-class upper division, 39 (26.4%) finished in the second-class lower division, and three (2%) graduated with third-class honours.

The convocation activities will kick off with a convocation dinner on Thursday, October 17. This will be followed by a convocation lecture and a novelty match on Friday, October 18. The lecture will be delivered by Dr. Makanjuola Ojewunmi, Managing Partner at Makanjuola Ojewumi and Co., and Chairman of Jericho Mall, Ibadan.

The highlight of the ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 19, with the awarding of degrees and prizes. The event will conclude with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, October 20, at Wonder Hall, Wonder City, located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Oyo State.
