In a testament to unwavering dedication, perseverance, and a commitment to both community service and personal growth, Carey D. Waddell, a 48-year-old firefighter, has achieved a significant milestone by earning a Ph.D. from a prestigious U.S. university, marking the culmination of his remarkable 30-year career in the fire service.

Waddell's journey in the fire service began in 1991 when he joined the United States Air Force as a firefighter. Over the years, he demonstrated exceptional dedication and leadership, progressing through various roles at Fort Bliss, Texas, including firefighter, engineer, lieutenant, and fire inspector.

His career took an international turn in 2004 when he joined the Department of Navy Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Enterprise. Throughout his adventurous journey, he served in diverse roles such as fire captain, assistant chief for operations, battalion chief, assistant chief for training, installation fire chief, and assistant chief for fire prevention. Waddell's service extended to different naval bases in Greece, Spain, Japan, Okinawa, and California.

Currently serving as the U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay F&ES Deputy Fire Chief, Waddell's experience spans three decades in the fire service. Beyond his operational duties, he actively contributes to the field as a board member of The National Fire Heritage Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history and culture of the fire service.
