AAU SUG passes A Vote of No Confidence on the Dean of Students, calls for his immediate removal within 48 hours
The Student Union Government (SUG) of the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has called for the immediate removal and replacement of the Dean of Students, Prof Emmanuel Ufuah, Myschoolnews report.
This is coming not days after the student body was pronounced dissolved by the Dean.
The student body made the call for the immediate removal and replacement of the Dean after a General Assembly that was held on the 4th of September, 2023.
The official memo from the Assembly reads below;
We take solace in the words of late Dele Giwa: “No evil deed will go unpunished; any evil done by man to man will be redressed; if not now then certainly later; if not by man, then by God for the victory of evil over good is temporary.’
In a General Assembly convened by the students of Ambrose Alli University on September 4th, 2023, the following resolutions were reached:
On the Dean of Students, Prof. Emmanuel Ufuah Ph.D (Manchester):
1. The Dean of Students, Prof. Emmanuel Ufuah Ph.D (Manchester), must be removed and replaced within 48 hours for the following reasons:
a. He has failed to act as an intermediary between the students and the University's management, instead consistently assuming the role of the Dean of Management, undermining student interests.
b. The Dean unilaterally and without legal authority dissolved a duly elected student union, funded by student contributions, posing a threat to democratic processes.
c. His unwarranted interference in various aspects of the Student Union Government, despite not being a member, disrupts the democratic process.
d. The Dean's practice of recording and submitting videos of protesters to the Student Disciplinary Committee, unlike previous Deans who protected students' interests, demonstrates a lack of support for students.
e. His constant threats to expel students for exercising their constitutional rights to protest and assemble are a violation of their rights.
f. Negligence of duty, as he is consistently absent when students need his presence, adopting a reactive rather than proactive approach.
The students hereby pass a vote of NO CONFIDENCE in the Dean of Students.
