The Abia State Government has issued a stern warning to proprietors of private schools in the region, expressing disappointment over the reopening of some schools that were recently shut down for infractions. Despite being closed down for failing to meet minimum standards, some schools have resumed operations, prompting the government to threaten legal action against the concerned proprietors.

The Abia State Government has expressed dismay over the reopening of private schools that were recently closed down for various infractions. Despite being shut down for failing to meet required standards, some proprietors have resumed operations, disregarding government directives.

Speaking at a briefing in Government House, Umuahia, Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, warned proprietors to close these schools or face legal consequences. The government emphasized the necessity of adhering to established standards in education to ensure the safety and quality of learning environments for students.

Additionally, the government has directed principals and head teachers of public schools to refrain from renting out school premises for events. This directive aims to prevent distractions to students and uphold the integrity of the educational environment. Violators of this directive will face enforcement actions under existing laws.

Abia State Commissioner for Education, Professor Uche Eme Uche, reiterated that schools have no authority to charge extra fees beyond those authorized by the state government. Parents are encouraged to report any cases of unauthorized fees to the Ministry of Education for prompt action.

The government also addressed concerns regarding the proposed Arungwa trailer park, dismissing allegations that it would serve as a RUGA settlement. Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Mr. Chaka Chukwumerije, clarified that the project aims to decongest traffic and generate revenue for the state, emphasizing its commercial nature.

Meanwhile, primary school teachers with salary issues from previous administrations were assured that their concerns would be addressed following a recent meeting.
