Abia State Assembly Committee Inspects ABSU Projects, Commends Focus on Student Welfare

The Abia State House of Assembly Committee on Education has carried out an inspection visit to Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), as part of its oversight function to assess the level of infrastructural development and ongoing project execution in tertiary institutions within the state.

The Committee, led by the Chairman and Majority Leader, Hon. Uchenna Okoro, and accompanied by other members, was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo, alongside members of the University Management team.

During the inspection exercise, the Committee visited several ongoing and completed projects within the University, including the ongoing construction of a 5,000-capacity students’ hostel, the newly renovated Hostel A, the ongoing renovation works at Hostel C, and the ongoing construction of the Faculty of Law Block.

The Committee expressed satisfaction with the standard and quality of work executed so far and commended the University Management for prioritising students’ welfare through improved accommodation and learning facilities.

At the Faculty of Law Block, which is still under construction, the Committee observed the level of work done and lauded the Abia State Government for their continuous investment in educational infrastructure that will enhance effective teaching and learning.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Committee applauded the efforts of the Abia State Government and the University Management in improving the learning environment at ABSU. He assured the institution of the continued support of the Abia State House of Assembly in advancing the education sector in the state.

In response, the Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude to the Committee for the visit and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to transparency, accountability and the provision of quality education, driven by adequate and modern infrastructure. 

He also acknowledged the unprecedented support of the Governor and Visitor to the University, Dr. Alex C. Otti, OFR, and prayed for God’s continued wisdom, strength and guidance upon him in achieving his vision of positioning ABSU as a world-class University.

Present during the visit were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Gazie Okpara; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor (Mrs.) Roseline Ndimele; the Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu; the Bursar, represented by Mr. Adinma Okwudiri; University Librarian, Dr. Mrs. Martha Ibeneme, Dean Student Affairs, Professor Dick Uduma, as well as other university staff members.

From the side of the House Committee were Hon. Emeka Obioma (Chief Whip), Hon. Lucky U. N. Johnson (State Constituency), Mr. Okechukwu Onyekwere (Secretary to the House Committee on Education).

The inspection visit ended with an interactive session and group photographs.
