ABU International Studies Alumni Association Holds First AGM and Book Presentation

The International Studies Alumni Association of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, held its inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM), book presentation, luncheon, and general elections on Saturday, 14th September 2024. The event took place at the School of Postgraduate Studies Auditorium, Samaru, Zaria.

Dr. Chris J. Maiyaki, Acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), chaired the event and praised the university’s legacy as a hub for radical ideology and political liberation in Africa. He noted that ABU has produced numerous notable figures, including presidents, vice presidents, governors, and diplomats.

Representing the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, thanked the alumni for their contributions to the university’s growth and encouraged them to explore the ongoing developments at ABU.

Guest lecturer, Prof. Abdullahi Y. Shehu, warned of the economic risks and global power struggles arising from the potential exit of Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso from ECOWAS. He stressed the importance of maintaining regional unity.

The Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, also commended the association's leadership under Interim President Ambassador Muntari Abdu Kaita for its progress.

The event concluded with goodwill messages and the presentation of plaques to the special guests.
