ABU Tracer Survey Reveals 75% Employment Rate for 2023 Graduates; VC Highlights Global Competitiveness
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has announced that approximately 75 percent of its 2023 graduates secured employment shortly after graduation, with the majority landing roles directly related to their fields of study.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, disclosed these findings during the university's 45th Convocation Ceremony, held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Mamman Kontagora Square, Main Campus, Samaru.
The data, derived from a recent tracer survey conducted by the University Advancement Office, underscores the strong relevance of ABU degrees in the current labor market. Key insights from the survey include:
75% Employment Rate: Most graduates are employed in roles aligned with their academic training.
Curriculum & Teaching: Nearly 80% of respondents expressed satisfaction with teaching quality, while 75% praised curriculum relevance.
Skill Development: 68% felt the institution adequately prepared them with essential soft skills.
Addressing the 25% of graduates still seeking employment, Prof. Ahmed noted that the university is using survey feedback—specifically the 54% satisfaction rate regarding career guidance—to drive ongoing reforms in student support services.
Prof. Ahmed reaffirmed that holistic student growth remains a core priority. He highlighted several key initiatives aimed at improving the campus experience:
Infrastructure: Continuous renovation of hostels and enhancement of municipal services.
Financial Support: 86 indigent students and those with special needs received targeted scholarships and financial aid.
Mentorship: The newly introduced "Lunch with the Vice-Chancellor" program has been established to foster leadership, empathy, and a stronger sense of belonging.
The Vice-Chancellor celebrated the recent triumphs of ABU students on the global stage, citing victories at the ECOWAS Moot in Abuja and the Huawei International Artificial Intelligence Competition in Shenzhen, China.
Furthermore, the 2025 Students’ Cultural Carnival was recognized for promoting unity and creativity, reinforcing ABU’s reputation for nurturing well-rounded graduates.
"These achievements underscore the quality of training and global competitiveness of our graduates," Prof. Ahmed stated, "reaffirming ABU's commitment to nurturing individuals equipped to contribute meaningfully to national and global development."
