Accreditation is Crucial for Varsity’s Survival, Says BUK VC

Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, when he received the National Universities Commission's(NUC) Accreditation teams for two undergraduate programs of B.ATheatre and Performing Arts and BSc.Geology in the Faculties of Communications and Earth and Environmental Sciences, respectively.

Prof. Abbas further revealed that this all important peer review activity happens only in the university system for the purpose of ensuring compliance with the NUC's stipulated guidelines and also for the aim of identifying areas that need some improvement.

While looking forward to meet the teams once again for a fruitful discussion during an exit briefing, Prof. Abbas reassured them of his unwavering commitment to ensuring that their assessment should be a hitch free exercise.

Earlier speaking, the team leader of the accreditation teams, Prof. Olu Obafemi,who spoke on behalf of the two teams, told the Vice Chancellor that they were at the University to exclusively perform a very important national assignment as regards to quality assurance in terms of curriculum contents, not for a witch-hunting exercise.

While appreciating the University Management for doing a great job in maintaining academic standards, he thanked the Vice Chancellor for the warm reception accorded them, saying, “The hospitality is excellent and we will find it

difficult to leave when it is time”.

Present during the visit were the DVC Academics, Prof. Muhammad Gumel; the University Librarian, Dr. Kabir Dahiru Abbas, the Ag. Registrar; Hajiya Amina Abdullahi Umar, the Director, Academic Planning, Prof.Yusuf Garba; Dean, Faculty of Communications, Prof. Umar FaroukJibril; Director of VC's Office, Mal.Ahmad Shariff, Deputy Registrars, Public Affairs and VC's Office, Malam Lamara Garba and Malam Haruna Aliyu, respectively.
