Adeyemi Federal University of Education Urges FG to Upgrade Teaching Facilities Across Tertiary Institutions

Samuel Akintunde, Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Adeyemi Federal University of Education in Ondo, has urged the Nigerian government to upgrade teaching facilities across tertiary institutions to improve educational standards.

Samuel Akintunde, the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo, has called on both federal and state governments to enhance teaching resources across tertiary institutions to further improve the standard of education in Nigeria. Akintunde made this appeal during a press conference on Monday, marking the commencement of the university's 60th Founders’ Day celebration.

Addressing concerns about the quality of education in Nigeria, Akintunde refuted claims that the standard is declining. He pointed out that the demand for Nigerian educators in countries like the UK contradicts this notion.

Highlighting the significance of the Founders’ Day celebration, Akintunde expressed gratitude for the upgrade of the former College of Education to a University of Education, a move endorsed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This upgrade has led to the approval of 25 degree programs by the National Universities Commission (NUC), set to commence from the 2023/2024 academic session.

“We are thrilled to inform the public of President Tinubu's benevolence in revalidating the upgrade of our institution and directing the immediate implementation of the conversion, which culminated in the approval of 25 degree programs by the NUC,” Akintunde said. He also extended congratulations to the Ondo Kingdom and acknowledged the perseverance of the community in achieving this milestone.

Akintunde expressed appreciation to the staff, students, and unions (COEASU, SSUCOEN, NASU, and NACEATON) for their relentless efforts in advocating for the institution’s upgrade. He also conveyed heartfelt gratitude to President Tinubu for his pivotal role in this achievement.

Festus Oyebade, the National President of the Adeyemi Alumni Association, announced that the Founders’ Day celebration would include the commissioning of new buildings and the naming of university roads on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
