Ahmadu Bello University Submits Report on Operationalizing Business School

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has submitted a report on the operationalization of its Business School to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala. The report, presented on 14th February 2025, outlines the school’s purpose, organizational structure, and curriculum, aiming to make it a self-sustaining, revenue-generating arm of the University.

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has taken a significant step towards establishing its Business School with the submission of a comprehensive report to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala. The report was formally presented on Friday, 14th February, 2025, at the Vice-Chancellor's Conference Room, Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria.

The Chairman of the Committee on Operationalizing the ABU Business School, Prof. Raymond B Bako, who also serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, outlined the committee’s task of transforming the Business School into a self-sustaining, revenue-generating arm of the University. Prof. Bako, speaking on behalf of the committee, shared that the committee had its inaugural meeting on 16th January, 2025, and has worked diligently to craft a report that lays the foundation for the future of the school.

In his address, Prof. Bako emphasized that the ABU Business School is a pivotal component of the University's strategic plans. The report highlights the intended purpose of the Business School, its organizational structure, and curriculum development. The committee's vision is to position the school as the leading business institution in the country, without placing additional financial burdens on the University’s management.

Following the submission, Prof. Kabiru Bala, the Vice-Chancellor of ABU, commended Prof. Bako and his team for their thorough work. He expressed optimism that previous challenges regarding the school would be resolved, and the vision for the Business School would soon become a reality.

In a significant move, Prof. Bala transformed the committee into an implementation body, which will be led by Prof. Auwalu Haruna, the Director of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Centre of Excellence. The committee is tasked with overseeing the execution of the report's recommendations and the eventual launch of the Business School.

A key outcome of the report was the proposal for the formation of the Business School’s Governing Board. The committee recommended that members be drawn from reputable financial institutions and regulatory bodies, including the CBN, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB).

This move marks a major milestone in ABU’s continued commitment to academic excellence and the development of specialized programs aimed at enhancing Nigeria's business education sector.
