Ahmadu Bello University Welcomes Second Cohort of Somali Medical Interns

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has received the second cohort of medical students from Simad University, Mogadishu, Somalia, for a one-year internship program at ABU Teaching Hospital.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, expressed delight at the students' preference for ABU, citing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two institutions.

Prof. Ahmed assured the interns of the university's maximum cooperation, stating that the training would expose them to diverse medical techniques, enhancing their practice upon return to Somalia. The Director, Directorate of Advancement and International Education, Prof. M I Umar-Buratai, highlighted the tradition of Somali medical students interning at ABU, promoting the university's values.

The Provost, College of Medical Sciences, Prof. Dahiru Samaila Lawal, emphasized that internship is compulsory for medical students, fulfilling the MoU agreement. The interns will work under consultant supervision, gaining practical experience.

The Provost, College of Medical and Health Sciences, Simad University, Dr. Abdi Abdkerem Abdulahi Ahmad, thanked ABU management and the College of Medical Sciences for their support. The Assistant Director, Advancement Services, Dr. Ahmed Zakaria, coordinated the interns' arrival, strengthening academic ties between ABU and Simad University.
