In a significant move aimed at fostering collaboration and mutual support, the Alihame Community in Ika South Local Government Area has pledged its continuous partnership with the University of Delta (UNIDEL) Agbor.

This commitment was expressed during a courtesy visit led by community leader Mr. Rawlince Nwaonicha.

The delegation’s visit underscored the community’s desire to deepen its relationship with the university and explore potential areas of collaboration. Mr. Nwaonicha praised the management of UNIDEL for its transformative leadership, which he credited with the university's recent growth and development. "We are dedicated to supporting the university, especially in areas such as accommodation, security, and peacebuilding," he stated.

Hon. Fred Ofume, another member of the delegation, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of ongoing dialogue between the community and the university’s management. He congratulated UNIDEL for successfully conducting the Students’ Union Executive election, a notable achievement as it marked the first electronic election of its kind in Nigeria.

The Vice Chancellor of UNIDEL, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, welcomed the community’s commitment, commending them for their role in sustaining peace within the university environment. "Your efforts have made life safer and more conducive for our students and staff," she remarked. However, she also addressed a pressing concern, urging the community to reconsider the high rents charged by landlords, which have become increasingly burdensome for students amid the ongoing economic crisis in the country.

The visit brought together key figures from both the Alihame Community and UNIDEL, including Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Patricia Mbah, Registrar Barrister Richmond Omagbemi, and Librarian Dr. Mrs. Vera Okonoko, all of whom expressed optimism about the future of the partnership.
