Alumni Association Donates Educational Materials to Abbi Schools, Urges Students to Value Education

The Unique Nobles 90 Association, comprised of the 1990 alumni of Abbi Grammar School, donated educational materials worth over one million naira to Abbi Grammar School and Abbi Comprehensive Girls Secondary School in Ndokwa West, Delta State.

In a commendable act of generosity, the Unique Nobles 90 Association, comprising the 1990 alumni of Abbi Grammar School, donated educational materials worth over one million naira to their alma mater and Abbi Comprehensive Girls Secondary School in Ndokwa West, Delta State, on Thursday.

The donation included essential items such as textbooks, notebooks, chalk, and other learning supplies, reflecting the association's commitment to supporting educational development within the community.

During the formal presentation ceremony, Comrade Shedrack Onitsha, Chairman of Nobles 90, addressed the students, emphasizing the paramount importance of education for future success. “Education is a key equalizer in society,” Onitsha stated, countering the notion that it could be a “scam.” He encouraged students to recognize the value of education as they build their futures.

The event also witnessed the presence of representatives from the Abbi Grammar Old-Student Association (AGOSA), including Barr. Nelson Okuzor and Sir Godsday Owetemu, who commended Nobles 90 for their contributions to the school's development. They urged other alumni sets to engage in similar initiatives to enhance the institution's progress.

Sir Godsday Owetemu, AGOSA’s home-based chairman, highlighted the need for alumni contributions, stressing that “government alone cannot meet all the school’s needs.”

Accompanying the chairman were several members of Nobles 90, including Vice Chairman Ogbuefi Ibobo Godfrey, past chairman Mr. Samuel Obije, and others.

The donated materials featured the latest editions of textbooks for Mathematics, English, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry for Senior Secondary School 3 (SSS3) and Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3). Additionally, thirty-five economically disadvantaged JSS3 students received individual copies of Mathematics and English textbooks to support their studies.

Reflecting on his time at Abbi Grammar School, Onitsha shared how the rigorous yet formative experience shaped their successful careers, stating, “We started here in 1984, and the resilience and determination we developed in this school have driven us to become successful in various fields.” He urged students to prioritize learning, remain disciplined, and view education as a foundational element for future success.

To further encourage academic excellence, the association pledged to support students by covering WAEC and JAMB fees for top performers. “Take advantage of the resources now available in the library, and let your dedication to your studies be evident,” Onitsha advised.

At Abbi Comprehensive Girls Secondary School, additional educational materials were presented to the top ten JSS3 students, while branded notebooks were distributed to JSS1 and JSS2 students.

The principals of both schools expressed their gratitude for the alumni’s support. Mr. Monday Oshilim, Principal of Abbi Grammar School, lauded the generosity of the alumni, stating, “It’s heartwarming that years after graduating, this group remembers the importance of supporting education in our community. These textbooks are invaluable resources for our students and the school library.”

Mr. Ogume Gabriel, Vice Principal of Abbi Comprehensive Girls Secondary School, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the critical role alumni contributions play in educational advancement. “I want to appreciate this unique body for finding it necessary to carry Abbi Girls along and extending their hands to our school,” he remarked.

Both principals called for further support from the government and alumni to address additional needs, such as desks and perimeter fencing for the schools.

The event culminated in the official handover of textbooks to the school libraries, marking a significant step towards enhancing learning resources for students in Abbi.
