Governor Chukwuma Soludo's commitment to sports development in Anambra State was reaffirmed during a recent speech, emphasizing the pivotal role of sports in empowerment. Meanwhile, the Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ASSDC) gears up for the 2024 School Sports Festival, set to be a grand showcase of youthful talent and athletic prowess.

Patrick-Estate Onyedum, Chairman of ASSDC, announced that a record-breaking 756 primary and secondary schools have enlisted for the 2024 School Sports Festival. The event, scheduled from May 2 to June 7 in Awka, promises to surpass the success of its predecessor, with an expanded lineup of 12 sporting events spanning various age categories.

The festival will feature a diverse array of sports including Athletics, Basketball, Chess, Football, Scrabble, Swimming, Table tennis, Tennis, Taekwondo, Volleyball, Cricket, and Ncho, catering to participants aged under 12, under 14, and under 18.

Reflecting on the previous edition's triumphs, Onyedum highlighted the festival's role in unearthing latent talent across Anambra. Many young athletes discovered in the inaugural event have since excelled nationally, securing academic scholarships and acclaim in various sporting disciplines.

Governor Soludo, through his Chief of Staff, Ernest Ezeajughi, reiterated the administration's unwavering support for sports development.
