Angbazo Foundation Pledges Centre for Leadership as NSUK Opens 3rd International Conference

In a significant move to address leadership gaps and foster research in leadership, the Bala and Ladi Angbazo Legacy Foundation has pledged to establish a Centre for Leadership, Security, and Policy Research at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK).

This announcement was made by Major General Nuhu Angbazo (Rtd) on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, during the 3rd International Conference of the Faculty of Arts held at the S.B. Mohammed Auditorium, School of Postgraduate Studies.

Major General Angbazo, who was honored with a Distinguished Award in Peace Development at the conference, expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasized the foundation's commitment to a long-term partnership with the Faculty of Arts. He stated that the foundation's support would enhance leadership discourse and research at the university.

The Vice-Chancellor of NSUK, Professor Sa'adatu Hassan Liman, welcomed the conference participants and highlighted the importance of integrating sciences, humanities, and development. She explained that the interplay between these fields is crucial for addressing global challenges and improving quality of life. The conference, themed "Humanities, Science, and Development," was aimed at aligning discussions with goals of scientific advancement, human values, sustainable development, and effective policy and governance.

Keynote speaker Professor Sule Emmanuel Egya, Director of the Centre for Arts and Indigenous Studies at IBB University, Lapai, delivered a thought-provoking address on "Critical Thinking and The Invention of New Humanities." He emphasized the role of critical thinking in shaping new humanities and called for a re-evaluation of humanistic systems to confront neocolonial and neoliberal challenges effectively.

The event also included posthumous awards of honor to two former Deans of the Faculty, the late Professor Umelo Ojinma and Dogara Gwamna, as well as recognition for past Deans Professor Adewole Adigun Alagbe and Professor Gideon Sunday Omachonu.

The ceremony was graced by dignitaries including the Chancellor of the University and Emir of Keffi, Alhaji Dr. Shehu Chindo Yamusa III, represented by the Wambain Keffi, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdul, and the Esu Karu, HRM Pharm Luka Panya Baba.

The event marked a pivotal moment in the university's commitment to advancing leadership and research while honoring its academic heritage.
