ASUU Awards Scholarships to Indigent Students at Sule Lamido University Kafin Hausa
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has awarded scholarships to two indigent students from Sule Lamido University Kafin Hausa (SLUK) as part of its ongoing commitment to support students facing economic challenges.

The scholarship awards, announced on Wednesday, June 5th, 2024, underscore ASUU's dedication to fostering a more equitable educational environment.
In his remarks, Dr. Mustapha Hussaini, Chairman of the ASUU SLUK Branch, emphasized the comprehensive nature of the scholarship program. He noted that it addresses the multifaceted challenges students encounter, aiming to ensure that financial difficulties do not impede personal and intellectual development. Dr. Hussaini revealed that out of thirteen applicants from SLUK, Usman Abdulhamid from the Department of Science Education, Faculty of Education, and Amir Mustapha from the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, were selected as the primary recipients. Each of them received a scholarship worth Two Hundred Thousand Naira (₦200,000).

Furthermore, the ASUU SLUK Branch's screening committee decided to award the remaining eleven applicants with an assistance grant of Twenty Thousand Naira (₦20,000) each. This gesture extends the union's support to a broader group of students, acknowledging their need for financial aid.
During the award presentation, Vice-Chancellor Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Yakasai commended the recipients and urged them to utilize the funds wisely. He lauded ASUU for its compassionate attention to the needs of indigent students and encouraged all university principal officers to adopt similar scholarship initiatives, highlighting that it is a common practice in other universities.
The students who received the ₦20,000 ASUU assistance from the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences include Mubarak Salisu, Abdullahi Idris, Muhammad Ibrahim, Aminu Muhammad Sani, Idris Musa, Nura Muhammad Ado, and Hassan Abubakar. From the Faculty of Education, Maryam Muhammad Zakar, Hassan Musa, and Ashiru Adamu were beneficiaries, while Zainab Adamu received the award from the Faculty of Humanities.
