ASUU Joins Nationwide Strike, Halting University Activities Across Nigeria
In compliance with the directive, the Lagos Zone Coordinator of ASUU, Prof. Adelaja Odukoya, confirmed that the zone, comprising seven universities, would fully adhere to the union's instructions.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has directed its members nationwide to participate fully in the indefinite industrial action that commenced today, June 3, 2024. The directive was issued in a letter dated June 2, 2024, signed by ASUU President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke and addressed to all branch chairpersons and zone coordinators.
According to Osodeke, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) declared the strike due to the government's failure to renegotiate the minimum wage and reverse the hike in electricity tariffs. ASUU members are urged to join the strike as an affiliate of the NLC.
