ASUU Threatens Fresh Strike at Taraba State University Over Breach of Agreement

The Academic Staff Union of universities has threatened to resume a previously suspended strike over the alleged breach of a Memorandum of Action (MoA) signed in January 2025.

The union claims that the state government has failed to implement key aspects of the agreement, particularly the monthly disbursement of funds for Earned Academic Allowances.

The union alleges non-payment of Earned Academic Allowances, chronic underfunding of the university, and demands the establishment of a functional pension scheme for academic staff. ASUU has given the government an ultimatum to address these issues, failing which they will resume the suspended strike action.

The union's chairman, Dr. Joshua Mbave Garba, stated that they are not saboteurs or enemies of progress but nation builders and custodians of knowledge. They cannot continue to function in an environment where their welfare is neglected, their rights trampled upon, and their voices ignored.

The university community is anxiously awaiting the government's response to the union's demands.
