In a significant development for the students of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), the Office of the SUG Attorney General visited the Royal Highness Prof. Sir Charles Maduegbuna Aniekweze JP KSC, the Royal Ruler of Awkuzu kingdom, to address recent incidents of assault and battery by masquerades within the university communities.

During the meeting, His Royal Highness Prof. Sir Charles Maduegbuna Aniekweze warmly welcomed the SUG Attorney General and his entourage, expressing his strong disapproval of any violence against COOU students. The royal ruler made it clear that he does not support or condone any masquerade or individual who intimidates or abuses students in any way.

To ensure student safety, His Royal Highness announced an immediate ban on masquerades in student areas and pledged to use his authority as the traditional ruler to prevent further incidents. He also extended a formal apology to COOU students on behalf of the Awkuzu community for the harassment they experienced.

His Royal Highness has set up an enforcement team consisting of the Anambra State Vigilante Group (AVG) and the Mkpala society monitoring team to arrest any masquerade found to be harassing or flogging students. He emphasized that students should not engage in physical confrontations with masquerades, as it is considered an abomination in Igbo culture.

In the event of any future incidents, students are encouraged to contact the SUG Attorney General at +234 803 225 2165. The SUG Attorney General is the designated authority to involve security forces to deal with masquerade-related harassment.

The Royal Highness reiterated his commitment to student safety, ensuring that security will be increased in the student areas. He has also appointed the chairman of the Mkpala society to oversee the enforcement of these new measures.

This decisive action by His Royal Highness and the SUG Attorney General is expected to significantly improve the safety and well-being of COOU students in Awkuzu kingdom and surrounding communities.
