Babcock University Inducts 70 New Doctors, Celebrates ORION XI Graduation Ceremony
Babcock University, on June 22, 2026, held a formal induction ceremony where the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) officially inducted 70 new medical doctors from the Benjamin Carson (Sr.) College of Health and Medical Sciences.

During the event, Medical Elder, Professor Stephen Obaro, addressed the growing “Japa” migration trend among Nigerian medical professionals. He urged the new doctors to carefully consider the personal and professional implications of migration, while also encouraging those who leave to still contribute to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system from abroad.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the outstanding academic performance of Miss Esther Tope-Awe, who emerged as the Overall Best Graduating Doctor. She achieved distinctions in all 10 courses, earning recognition and a cash prize from the Ogun State Chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
The Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Professor Fatima Kyari, charged the newly inducted doctors to embrace medicine as more than a profession, describing it as a calling that requires empathy, compassion and strict adherence to ethical standards.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President and Vice-Chancellor of Babcock University, Professor Afolarin Ojewole, reminded the inductees that medicine is a sacred trust that demands responsibility, discipline and service to humanity.
The Provost of the Benjamin Carson (Sr.) College of Health and Medical Sciences, Professor Adeola Fowotade, encouraged the new doctors to prioritise service and societal impact over short-term personal gains. She also announced plans to establish the ORION Wall of Excellence to honour the achievements of alumni globally.

The event marked the induction of the ORION XI set and was described as a celebration of academic excellence and professional commitment as the university continues to train future leaders in healthcare.
