Bauchi Police Arrest Mastermind Behind Student Robbery at Federal Polytechnic Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the arrest of the suspected mastermind behind the recent wave of armed robbery incidents that sparked unrest among students of the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi.

In a press statement issued today by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the command confirmed that detectives apprehended Adamu Muhammad Lawan, 18, popularly known as Daddy, identified as the ringleader of a gang of about 20 youths involved in coordinated armed robberies targeting students’ lodges.

The police said that earlier on August 12, 2025, seven suspects linked to the operation had been arrested in Lushi, Birshin Fulani, and Birshi Gandu. They include:

The suspects confessed to their roles in the attacks and implicated Adamu Muhammad as the chief planner. According to police findings, the gang invaded student accommodations, robbing students of phones, laptops, and other valuables while armed with dangerous weapons.

During interrogation, Daddy admitted to selling three stolen mobile phones — Oppo, Samsung, and Infinix — for ₦40,000 through an associate identified as Salmanu alias Papus. Police investigations also revealed the gang’s involvement in violent robberies across Yelwa, Birshi Gandu, Birshin Fulani, and Gwallameji, where they inflicted injuries on resisting victims and fled to neighbouring states to evade arrest.

In a related development, on September 9, 2025, police operatives from B Division, GRA, arrested Salisu Musa, 25, of Mararraban Liman Katagum, after he was caught stealing a Jincheng motorcycle belonging to a student of Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi. The suspect was rescued from a mob attack and has since confessed to the crime.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, psc (+), mni, has directed that all suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation. He assured that the command remains committed to tackling criminality and restoring peace within academic communities in Bauchi State.
