Bayero University Kano VC Calls for Urgent Funding for Perimeter Fencing

During the 38th convocation of Bayero University, Kano, held at the new campus, Vice Chancellor Prof Sagir Abbas appealed to the Federal Government for immediate financial support to fence the university. He emphasized the critical security risk posed by the absence of perimeter fencing, especially with approximately 50,000 staff and students on campus.

Prof Abbas noted the initial allocation in the 2023 federal budget for the university's fencing, which was removed in the 2024 budget. He underscored the importance of prioritizing the safety of the university community, highlighting the inability to compromise on the lives of staff and students.

During the convocation, Bayero University conferred honorary degrees on notable figures, including Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, and President of the African Development Bank, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, in recognition of their contributions to national development.
