Benue State University Dean of Student Affairs Pledges Total Support to NUBESS
The Dean of Student Affairs at Benue State University, Associate Professor Nelson Alyebo, has committed to supporting the National Union of Benue State Students (NUBESS) during a courtesy visit by its leadership.
Associate Professor Nelson Alyebo, Dean of Student Affairs at Benue State University (BSU), has pledged his full commitment and support to the National Union of Benue State Students (NUBESS) to ensure the success of their aspirations. This assurance came during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the NUBESS National Secretariat to his office.
The visit aimed to discuss critical issues concerning student welfare and to celebrate the recent victory of Rt. Comrade Om Emmanuel Kundushima, the current NUBESS National President. Chief Comrade Adule, who led the delegation, emphasized the importance of familiarizing themselves with the Dean and addressing pressing matters affecting students, including the recent dissolution of the student union leadership without a proper structure in place.
Professor Alyebo assured the NUBESS leadership of his collaboration in conducting a smooth student union election, revealing that he has already drafted a timetable for the process. He stated, "We are working harmoniously with NUBESS and other union leaders to ensure a seamless election."

In his address, Rt. Comrade Om Emmanuel thanked the Dean and his team for their efforts and called for prompt mobilization of students for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). He requested a shift in the registration date and an increase in the CGPA requirement for Student Union candidates to 3.0.
On the issue of student harassment, particularly a recent incident involving a lecturer and a student, Comrade Emmanuel urged the university management to take decisive action. Professor Alyebo responded by assuring the delegation that measures are being taken to investigate the harassment claims thoroughly. He highlighted the importance of identifying the affected students to facilitate appropriate resolutions.

In addressing the late mobilization for NYSC, the Dean acknowledged the challenges faced and solicited the support of the NUBESS president in discussing this issue with national assembly members to enact laws that would alleviate students' plights.
In closing, Rt. Comrade Emmanuel expressed the willingness of NUBESS to partner with the university for development and extended gratitude for the Dean's commitment to enhancing student welfare.
