In a powerful act of philanthropy, Bishop Felix Owolabi, General Overseer of Faith Triumph Ministries International in Maryland, USA, and alumnus of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), awarded scholarships worth millions of naira to over 100 financially challenged students of FUNAAB. The awards, part of the fourth annual Bishop & Rev. (Dr.) Mrs. Felix Owolabi Scholarship Programme, were presented on November 6, 2024, at the Alumni Secretariat.
The event saw commendations from FUNAAB officials, with Mr. Adewale Ojoye, Deputy Registrar II of the Exams & Records Unit, representing Dr. Titus Adedeji, the Registrar, who in turn stood in for Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde. Ojoye praised Bishop Owolabi’s continued generosity and encouraged the students to focus on their studies, sharing that he, too, had been an indigent student at FUNAAB.
In a message from the Vice-Chancellor, the institution's recent recognition as Africa’s Best University of Agriculture and 7th globally by Times Higher Education was highlighted. Students were urged to maintain resilience, a positive mindset, and dedication, regardless of background, to achieve success.
Bishop Owolabi, represented by Dr. Femi Adefila, CEO of RAV FM and Western Spring TV, inspired the beneficiaries to aspire to great heights and reminded them of the importance of giving back. “Your current circumstances should motivate you to reach the top,” he said, advising the students to use the scholarship funds wisely.
Prof. Mutiu Busari, Director of the Directorate of Research, Innovations, and Partnerships, reflected on his own journey as a former indigent student and emphasized the importance of pledging future support for others in need. Additionally, FUNAAB Alumni President Mr. Bolaji Gbadamosi praised Bishop Owolabi's previous contributions, including a recent 1 million naira endowment to the College of Plant Science and Crop Production and a 6 million naira donation for medical assistance.
Miss Fiyinfoluwa Oladipupo from the Department of Soil Science and Land Management, representing the scholarship recipients, expressed gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanking Bishop Owolabi for his transformative support.
