The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Sagir Abbas, has revealed the institution's commitment to addressing the concerning trend of lecturers leaving the country, commonly known as 'Japa.' Speaking at the 4th College Foundation Day, themed "Funding medical education in the current economic realities: The way forward," the VC disclosed strategies to enhance lecturers' salary packages. This initiative aims to retain and attract top-tier educators, ensuring the continued excellence of academic programs at BUK.

To address financial constraints faced by students, the university has adjusted registration fees and introduced special charges for students of the College. These measures are implemented with the hope of resolving some of the financial challenges encountered by students pursuing their education at BUK.

Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor announced plans for the construction of a new hostel at a rural posting site for the Faculty of Clinical Sciences. This initiative aims to provide students with an environment conducive to learning, fostering their growth and development.

Earlier, the Provost, Aisha Kuliya Gwarzo, highlighted the College's involvement in high-level national and international collaborations, contributing significantly to winning research grants worth millions of dollars.
