CBN, TETFund Move to Take Over UNIDEL Project as Officials Flag Vandalism, Push for Completion

Officials from the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund have initiated steps to transfer a university building project at University of Delta Agbor to ensure its completion, following an assessment that flagged both progress and significant setbacks.

During a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Stella Chiemeke, on March 16, 2026, the CBN team, led by Omozuwa Iria-Anenih, disclosed that the inspection was mandated by the Federal Ministry of Education to facilitate TETFund’s takeover of the project.

Iria-Anenih noted that while the structure is approximately 90 per cent complete, it has suffered extensive vandalism since its inception during the era of the defunct College of Education, Agbor. She described the intervention as necessary to safeguard prior investments and fast-track delivery.

Responding, Chiemeke welcomed the proposed transition, positioning it as a practical route to unlocking the project’s stalled value. She directed TETFund and the contractor, Goshi Heritage Ltd., to prioritise rapid completion. The facility is expected to serve as the university’s new School of Postgraduate Studies.

The Vice-Chancellor also used the engagement to press for the transfer of the Vocational Education Training Centre near Uromi Junction, arguing that its integration into the university system would strengthen technical capacity, research output, and long-term sustainability.

The visit included an on-site inspection of the project located near the Faculty of Science complex, with senior university officials and representatives from the CBN, TETFund, and the contracting firm in attendance.
