Lagos State University Career Development Centre (LASUCDC), CEO YELS Concept advises students at one day employability training for obtaining soft skills to overcome challenges of Labour market.
The CEO YELS Concept, Miss. Kehinde Balikis Kenku, has lectured students of Lagos State University on the relevant employability skills that would enable them secure jobs immediately after their graduation.
Miss. Kenku enlightened the students of the University at a platform provided by her firm's collaboration with the Lagos State University Career Development Centre (LASUCDC).
The one day training session on employability and soft skill was held on Tuesday, 11th July 2023 at Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Theatre, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
At the training, Miss. Kenku equally advised students to engage in activities such as volunteering and learning new things aside their classroom lectures in order to develop soft skills and earn certifications.
On what a good and sellable Curriculum Vitae is like, she counselled that it must be simple and clear with valid information such as name, schools attended, address, work experience, telephone number(s), and valid email address.
Finally, she admonished the students that a prospective job seeker must dress well to an interview, research about the organization to have a background knowledge about the company and be confident.
In her welcome address, the Director, LCDC, Prof. Bisi Obadofin, ably represented by the Deputy Director, Dr. Medinat Osundiya acknowledged the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji Bello, mni, NPOM and the University Management for the support towards the Centre and the programme. Her words, “...the purpose of this programme is to use the strength of academics armories to build a solid future that will guarantee a better employability chance."
She further reiterated that the programme was organized to impart to the students, the necessary employability and soft skills needed in the world of work and to also groom them so as to have an edge over their contemporaries.
Also, at the training, a mental health expert and staff of LASU Bursary Department, Mr. Olushola Olumide, spoke on emotional intelligence and mental illness. In his presentation, he averred that it is imperative to learn how to manage and control mental health and to be emotionally intelligent. He further encouraged the students to understand their personalities and act accordingly.
The training was well attended by members of staff of LCDC, members of staff of Students' Affairs Division and members of staff of CIPR.
