Chibok Schoolgirl Rescued with Two Children After 10 Years in Borno State

Ihyi Abdu, a Chibok schoolgirl who was abducted by Boko Haram in 2014, has been rescued alongside her two children by the Nigerian military in Borno State, Northeast Nigeria. The rescued individuals, including Ihyi Abdu and the other women, were received by Aishatu Shettima, Borno State Director of Social Welfare, on behalf of the government.

Chibok Schoolgirl Rescued with Two Children After 10 Years in Borno State

Ihyi Abdu, a Chibok schoolgirl who was abducted by Boko Haram in 2014, has been rescued alongside her two children by the Nigerian military in Borno State, Northeast Nigeria.

 She was handed over to the Borno State Government on Monday, alongside 330 other rescued women from previous operations in the state.

Major General Waidi Shaibu, the theatre commander of Operation ‘Hadin Kai’, shared the news of the rescue during a press briefing on Tuesday in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. He emphasized that the ongoing captivity of the remaining Chibok girls spurred the military to launch a deep rescue operation into the Sambisa forest.

Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna, the Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 1, provided details of the rescue. Ihyi Abdu, 27 years old and of Kibaku ethnicity, hails from Kubur-Mbula village in Chibok Local Government Area. During her captivity, she was married to Abu Darda, a resident of Plateau state in Gwoza town, and later relocated to Senegal.

Following their rescue, Ihyi and her children underwent thorough medical examinations to ensure their well-being. The successful operation was a testament to the effectiveness of the military's strategies, particularly during the wet season operations in the Theatre.

The rescued individuals, including Ihyi Abdu and the other women, were received by Aishatu Shettima, Borno State Director of Social Welfare, on behalf of the government. This rescue offers hope for the remaining Chibok girls still in captivity and underscores the ongoing efforts by the Nigerian military to bring them home safely.
