College of Education Akamkpa and College of Agriculture Obubura to Become Universities

The Cross River State Assembly is moving forward with a bill to upgrade the College of Education, Akamkpa, and the College of Agriculture, Obubura, to universities. The House Committee on Education recently visited both institutions to assess their readiness.

Hon. Martins Achadu, Committee Chairman, said the bill, now in its second reading, will transform the institutions into a University of Education and a University of Agriculture, respectively. He emphasized the state's commitment to boosting agriculture as a key economic driver.

The Vice Chancellor of UNICROSS, Prof. David Oger, confirmed the institutions' readiness, highlighting available infrastructure but noted challenges like staff accommodation and power supply.

Prof. Patrick Nyong, Provost of the College of Education Akamkpa, praised the initiative and called for renovations to the school’s facilities, stressing the need to meet university standards.
