COOU Pharmacy Faculty Takes 3rd Place in 2024 Shalina Young Talent Awards
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) Faculty of Pharmacy shines, securing 3rd place in the 2024 Shalina Young Talent Awards in Lagos.
In a remarkable display of academic prowess, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has clinched the third position in the prestigious 2024 Shalina Young Talent Awards (SYTA), held in Lagos on Thursday, March 21, 2024.
Miss Chizoba Vivian Ihediuche, representing COOU, showcased exceptional knowledge and skill, propelling the institution to stand out among 24 contestants from accredited Pharmacy Schools across Nigeria. The SYTA, organized annually by Shalina Healthcare Nigeria, a renowned multinational Pharmaceutical Company, serves as a platform to recognize and celebrate the outstanding talents among final year Pharmacy students.

The competition, featuring rigorous assessments including multiple choice questions, oral presentations, rapid-fire rounds, and clinical case inquiries, saw COOU emerge triumphant after rigorous rounds of intellectual combat.
Despite stiff competition, COOU secured its place in the top five, ultimately clinching the esteemed third position, trailing behind the University of Lagos and the University of Jos.
Expressing gratitude, Prof. Theophine Akunne, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at COOU, commended the organizers for upholding transparency throughout the competition. Prof. Akunne reiterated COOU's commitment to excellence, noting that this debut participation marks the beginning of a journey towards securing the first position in the forthcoming editions of the competition.
Dignitaries and key figures in the pharmaceutical sphere, including Prof. Moji Adeyeye, Director General of NAFDAC; Pharm. Ahmed Babashehu, Registrar, Pharmacy Council of Nigeria; Prof. Cyril Usifo, National President, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, and the Managing Director of Shalina Healthcare Nigeria, graced the occasion, emphasizing the significance of nurturing young talent in the pharmaceutical industry.

In recognition of her outstanding performance, Miss Chizoba Vivian Ihediuche was awarded a cash prize of Three Hundred Thousand Naira (₦300,000), underscoring COOU's commitment to nurturing and rewarding academic excellence.
